Ring, ring.
Brooke: Hello?...Hello?
Caller: Hello? Is this Brooke?
Brooke: Yes it is...
Caller: Hey, Brooke, it's Joe Carrithers...
Brooke: Oh, hey Joe, how's it going?
Joe: Good, good, has anyone else called you yet?
Brooke: No, I haven't heard anything...(getting excited...)
Joe: Oh, good, that means I get to be the one to tell you--
Brooke: Oh, my God! Don't even tell me! I can't believe it!
Joe: Well, now, well now, you didn't win...
Brooke:...Oh?...okay.
Joe: But, you did recieve an honorable mention...it was between you and Jodi...they don't usually do an honorable mention...priveledge...honor...next year...tea.
Brooke: Oh, I'm so happy for her, she's brilliant, I hear...
Joe: Well I'm happy for you, and...okay, bye.
I'm considering it an honor to be honored. Plus I want to read some of this Jodi's work. It must be fabulous.

I totally think that my scholarship is lacking. Jeanne was suggesting that we take a trip over to Cal State Fullerton to do our literary research, but I had a whiny overpriveledged problem with having to go off of my own campus to do research for classes when our campus has a library that should be utilized for on campus courses, or something. I think you suggested going there, too, but I have this hangnail like stubborness, like, when I'm paying Cal State my hard-earned Benjamans I'll use their library, but since I'm paying Fullerton College $30 a year to park at their campus, I'll use the essays from 1965.
Besides, I know from every teacher that I've had that Jodi is a brilliant writer. She's really the only other student that I've ever heard about. I can imagine that she went to places like High School, places I've only dreamed about. She's really not friendly in class -- I've tried to be friendly to her, but she looks at me like she couldn't care less, and I'm like, really? Really? There's something fascinating going on in there? Astonishing.
I was encouraged to submit next year -- plus! I get to go to the ceremonial tea to recieve my honorable mention, so you punks better be there and we better party-hardy. Lord knows hows I gets whens I gets my tea on.
My dear; I am not sure how to say this or if it is appropriate. But since I never am appropriate and I doubt anyone besides Brandon reads this thing, I will be open. You are brilliant. We felt your papers revealed an original mind. This is extremely unusual. Your interpretations are actually INTERESTING and NEW. You are to polish up and resubmit next year and you will win hands down. Do not compare yourself to others; there is no comparison. You are the only student to whom I have recommended graduate school. Ever. I won't discuss other students in a blog, but trust me, you were the "student of my heart" and you will someday have one of those big shiny Ph.D. thingies if you want one.
You, my dear, are making me blush. I'm just thinking of that paper I wrote about Gawain and Beowulf and how terrible and unoriginal I think it is...but you are a sweet succulent strawberry to say such wonderful things.
Shucks.
I have to confess, I really love you people.
